How to Unsend an Email on Your iPhone

If you use your email a lot, there is a high possibility that you may have encountered a situation in which you wished to unsend an email. You may have sent an email to the wrong recipient, forgot to include an attachment or the email had certain typos. Luckily, several email clients allow you to recall or unsend an email – of course, there is a time limit involved in that.

Most emailing clients have mobile apps making it easy for users to send and receive emails on their devices. If you use an iPhone, here’s how you can unsend an email on the Apple Mail, Gmail, and Outlook apps.

How to Unsend an Email in Apple Mail for iPhone

When you get your iPhone, it comes with the Apple Mail app already installed. With the Apple Mail app, you can sign into different email accounts, including Gmail and Outlook. However, to unsend an email using the Apple Mail app, you must ensure that your iPhone runs on at least iOS 16. If your device runs iOS 16 or higher, you can unsend an email using Apple Mail.

Step 1: On your iPhone’s home screen, tap the Apple Mail app.

Step 2: Tap the email account you would like to send an email from.

Step 3: At the bottom right of the screen, tap the Compose icon.

Step 4: Enter the details of your email including the recipient, subject, and body of the email.

Step 5: Tap the blue upward-facing arrow at the top-right corner to send the email.

After tapping the send button, at the bottom of your Inbox, you should see the Undo Send message in blue. Note that this Undo Send button will appear only for 10 seconds.

Step 6: Tap the Undo Send message and this will prevent the email from being sent.

Step 7: Make any changes you would like to the email, then hit the blue upward-facing arrow at the top right of the screen to send the email again.

If the Undo Send button isn’t used within 10 seconds, then you can no longer unsend your email. If you would like more time to use the Undo Send feature, you need to update your iPhone Settings.

Unsend an Email in Outlook for iPhone

The option to unsend an email on Outlook isn’t available for mobile apps yet. However, users can make use of Outlook for desktop or Outlook for web to unsend or recall emails.

Unsend Emails With a Time Limit

While iPhone supports a variety of email apps, only a handful of them offer the facility to unsend an email. Depending on that, you can set the delay time and save yourself from any sort of embarrassment or error. If you’re unsure about the contents, you can always schedule the email for later date. The Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail app allow you to schedule email on iPhone easily.
